This is a story I’ve been working on for a while. It’s a semi realistic vampire novel. It’s not quite an erotica like everything else on here, but has plenty of hot scenes. Some scenes are a little graphic, but it’s not too bad. It’s a little on the long side, so I’ve split it into 4 parts. I may convert it to an e-reader format for easier reading. Feel free to do this yourself if you know how.
Hope you enjoy reading as much as I did writing it.

“Can I buy you a drink?” Says a pretty dark-haired woman, walking over to Freya.
“Sure, I won’t turn down a free drink.” Freya replies, eyeing her up. Her eyes are bright, but have a deviant look to them.
Freya watches as the girl orders them both drinks.
She soon returns, handing Freya a gin and tonic. She sits down next to her, so close they’re almost touching. Freya can smell her sweet scent.
The girl sips her drink, but makes no attempt at conversation.
Freya decides to break the ice. “So what’s your name?”
“Kira.” The girl replies.
“I’m Freya.”
The girl continues to sip her drink in silence.
“So, where you from?” Asks Freya, trying to get some conversation going.
“Not far.”
This is hopeless. Freya thinks. She drinks, looking around for any of her friends. Someone come save me.
When her drink’s finished, Freya gets up. “See you around, I guess.” She says. Kira grabs her hand and pulls her back into her seat.
“No, stay. I get so lonely.” Kira slowly leans in, looking deep into Freya’s eyes. “I just want a friend.”
Bless her. Freya thinks. She pulls her into a hug.
Kira suddenly kisses Freya right on the lips. Freya pulls back, surprised. It’s been years since she last kissed a girl.
“Can we kiss? You like girls, right? I saw you eyeing that pretty blond earlier.” Says Kira.
“I guess...” Freya feels a little excitement growing. A bit of fun never hurt anyone.
“Can we go outside? I don’t like everyone watching.”
“Yeah, okay, come on then.” Freya takes Kira’s hand and leads her outside, a little unsteady on her feet. She would have to catch up with her friends later.
Kira starts pulling Freya into a nearby ally. She pushes her against a wall and kisses her roughly. Then she pulls back, a wild look in her eyes. Freya notices how pale her skin looks under the nearby street lamp.
“Sorry about this Freya, it’s nothing personal.” Says Kira. Before Freya can process what’s happening, Kira’s biting her neck. Freya struggles, but she finds it hard to move. A warm sleepy feeling comes over her. She feels herself fall into Kira’s arms, then everything goes dark.
Freya feels wet, cold and feverish. She opens her eyes and tries to get up. It’s dark and raining.
Where am I? Freya thinks, starting to panic. She gets groggily to her feet and looks around. There’s a dull ache in her neck.
Suddenly everything comes back to her. Kira bit me! I must of been drugged and left here. She checks her watch. It’s four in the morning.
I must’ve been lying here for hours. She thinks.
Freya starts heading home. She’s too sleepy to think about what happened or where her friends are.
Ten minutes later, she’s stripping off her wet clothes and falling into her bed.
Someone’s shaking her awake. Freya opens her eyes. The bright light makes her quickly close them again.
“You got in late. Are you feeling okay? You’re burning up.” Says Freya’s mum.
“No, I feel like shit.” Freya replies.
“You look it. Been partying too hard?”
Freya considers telling her about what had happened. She quickly decides against it. She didn’t really know what happened herself. The memory of last night was so foggy. Perhaps she had just drunk too much and passed out.
“I’ll get you some water.” Her mum leaves, returning shortly with a glass of water. Freya grabs it and starts drinking quickly. A moment later, she’s throwing it back up. Freya falls back into her bed and goes to sleep once more.
When she next wakes, it’s dark. Freya’s head aches and she feels weak, but the fever is gone. She goes to the kitchen to get some water.
When she returns to her room, she looks at herself in the mirror. All the colour has gone from her skin and her eyes were bloodshot. She notices two marks on her neck. It’s where Kira had bit her. She couldn’t of drawn blood though, the wounds couldn’t of healed that fast, could they?
Freya gets back into bed.
Freya goes to breakfast the next morning. She doesn’t really feel hungry, but forces herself to eat something.
“Oh good, you’re finally awake.” Says Freya’s mum. “I was getting worried. How do you feel?”
“A little better.” Freya replies. She still feels a little off though.
“We’ve run out of milk. Are you well enough to go out later?”
“I think so. The fever’s gone now.”
“I’ll go if you’re not up to it.”
“It’s fine. I need some air anyway.”
Freya gets dressed and heads out. The sun feels hot on her skin. Hotter than usual for a spring morning. Freya’s sweating by the time she gets to the shop.
When she gets home, she’s exhausted. Her skin feels sore and her head is pounding. Freya lies on her bed. She only means to have a quick nap, but when she wakes, it’s starting to get dark. Her mum has left dinner on the side.
Freya eats some of the meat, but after a few bites, she’s full. Her teeth are starting to ache a little too. She turns on the light and looks in the mirror.
To her horror, Freya realises her incisor teeth are loose. She accidentally pulls one out. In the gap, is the point of a new tooth growing.
What’s happening to me? Freya wonders, on the verge of panic.
She can’t sleep, so instead she creeps downstairs and goes outside for a walk. The cool night air feels inviting.
Freya suddenly notices just how well she can see. Her night vision has never been the greatest, but now she has no trouble in making out the shapes of everything around her. After a few minutes, her vision has improved even more.
Freya finds herself walking through the nearby woods. All her senses seem to be extra alert today. Freya had never felt so alive.
She hears an owl fly overhead and sees a mouse scuttle past in the darkness. She stands still and takes everything in. The woods feel so alive. She never usually notices this much in the day, let alone at night.
Freya breathes in deeply, smelling a musky smell that must belong to a fox or badger.
A few hours pass before Freya finally heads home, feeling refreshed. She sleeps in late the next morning, only waking when her mum opens the door.
“Are you still unwell?” She asks. “Do you need to see a doctor?”
“No, I’m fine. Just tired.” Freya reluctantly gets up. She goes to the bathroom and brushes her teeth, noticing how fast the new teeth have grown. They were much sharper than the old ones had been. They’re more like fangs than teeth.
Freya gets out her phone and starts googling her symptoms. All she finds is references to vampires. But they aren’t real, are they?
She finds a few news articles about vampire sightings, but the evidence was lacking and it was put down to a hoax.
Freya decides to go see her best friend to take her mind off her illness, or whatever it was.
She knocks on her door. Yasmin’s house was only a few minutes walk away, but Freya wears a hood to keep the sun off her head. The sun was almost unbearable.
Yasmin opens the door. “Hey, Freya. What happened the other day at the party? I saw you go off with that girl and never saw you since.”
“Long story. Can I come in?”
“Of course. You okay? You look quite pale.”
“I’m fine. I’m just getting over a fever.” Says Freya.
“I’ll make you a hot drink, then you can tell me what happened with you and that girl.”
Freya sits on the sofa with Yasmin. See tries to drink her tea, but it’s too hot. She can’t even hold the mug without burning herself.
“What happened then? Did you go back to her place?” Yasmin asks.
“No, nothing really happened.” Freya doesn’t feel like talking about it.
“You sure? I saw you kiss her, then you disappeared.”
“Nothing happened.” Freya insists.
“I know you like playing with girls every once in a while. Come on, what are you hiding?”
“Nothing!” Freya suddenly feels a wave of anger come over her. It scares her. She never loses her temper like this. Especially with her best friend.
“Okay, calm down. I’ll say no more. Something’s up though, I can tell.”
“I’m fine!” Freya feels like lashing out.
“You can tell me anything, you know that, don’t you?” Yasmin places a hand on Freya’s arm. Freya suddenly grabs it and bites hard into Yasmin’s arm.
Yasmin cries out. Freya suddenly lets go, horrified at what she had done. Where did that come from? It was like she wasn’t in control of her body anymore.
Yasmin stares at her in fear and shock. Crimson blood was pouring down her arm. Freya suddenly gets the urge to bite again. She quickly turns around and runs toward the door before she can hurt her friend again.
She runs home and locks herself in her room. Freya curls up in the corner and begins to sob. What have I become? She asks herself. The taste of Yasmin’s blood was still fresh in her mouth. It makes her feel sick, but there’s something else too. If she hadn’t of run away, Freya thinks she might’ve bitten her again. It was like she couldn’t help herself.
Were those stories of vampires really true? Freya wonders. If so, what will I do now?
Freya sleeps again, coming down for dinner, just so no one would suspect anything was wrong. What would they do if they found out?
Freya found she couldn’t eat much. As the sun goes down, she feels much stronger and more awake than she has been all day.
She goes back to her room and waits for everyone to go to sleep. Then she quietly slips out the house. She needs some fresh air and time to think.
Freya walks down the street. She doesn’t know where she’s going, but it felt good to just be alone in the dark. Suddenly movement catches her eye. A shadowy figure is creeping up to someone’s house.
Freya gets a little closer, not sure if she should leave or call out. Suddenly they turn around and look straight at her.
Freya recognises them. It’s the girl from the other night. They turn and start running away.
Freya gives chase, wanting answers. The girl disappears into an ally. Freya follows. There’s no sign of her. Where’d she go? Freya wonders, looking around.
Suddenly a knife is pressed against her throat.
“Get out of here. It’s best you pretend you never met me, okay? I’m not your friend.” Says Kira. “Follow me again and I’ll kill you.” She lowers the knife and starts walking off.
“Wait!” Freya calls, following after her.
“I mean it, stay away! Just forget what happened the other night. I don’t even remember your name, you mean nothing to me.” Kira spits.
“Please, tell me what’s happening to me. What did you do?”
“Wait, are you saying...” Kira pulls Freya’s lips apart, looking at her teeth. “Ah shit, I’m sorry. That wasn’t meant to happen. All the times I’ve fed and this is the first time I’ve transmitted this bloody curse. I guess I owe you an explanation.” Kira sighs. “You better follow me.”
Freya follows her up the street and into the woods at the end of her road. “Are you a...” She starts.
“Vampire?” Kira finishes. “Yes, for lack of a better term. We have some abilities, but nothing like the stuff from fiction. I can’t turn into a bat or go invisible, but I see better in the dark, and get people to trust me enough to feed on them. I rushed it a bit with you. That was a mistake.”
“So does that mean I’m a vampire now too?” Freya asks.
“It seems that way. It’s quite rare to transmit the disease by accident. Usually new vampires are made purposely. We like to keep it that way. Otherwise there’ll be too many of us around, and we’ll be hunted.”
“How come no one knows about you then? I found a few articles online, but it’s mostly just superstition. Surely word would’ve got out.”
“We’re very careful to keep ourselves secret. From time to time someone discovers the truth, but who’s going to believe them? If they’ve got real evidence, we’ll try to eliminate them. That’s pretty rare though. You’re lucky you found me. You could’ve blown our cover. You haven’t told anyone what happened have you?” Kira asks, the slightest bit of panic in her voice.
“No, but... I accidentally bit my friend earlier today. I couldn’t help it, I just lost control. I think I really hurt her.” Says Freya, fighting back tears.
“It’s okay sweetie. You’ll learn how to control yourself. It’s all new to you. I felt the same way back when I was infected. At least you didn’t kill her. I know someone who lost control and killed their lover when they were first infected. That took some cleaning up. We had to make it look like an accident. I’ll spare you the details.” Kira leads Freya to a small overgrown cabin.
“So, where do I begin?”
Freya sits down. This is too overwhelming, she’s never felt so scared and alone.
Kira sits next to her. “It’ll be okay. You don’t need to be scared, I’ll look after you.”
“You said you were going to kill me just now.”
“I didn’t mean it. I just couldn’t have you following after me. I thought you still felt something for me from the other night. I can have that effect on people.”
“What happened that night?” Freya asks. “I woke up in the rain and didn’t know where I was.”
“I’m sorry about that. I needed to feed. I should’ve done it properly, but I was desperate. After I bit you, the toxins took hold and you passed out. That’s why you feed on people who are sleeping. Those fangs of yours secrete a sedative when you bite. It stops people from waking up so you can feed.
You’ve got to be careful who you feed on. People build a tolerance to the sedative, so it’s less effective each time. You can use this to your advantage and make somebody your thrall. The toxins can make people lethargic and bend to your will. In this state they’ll just let you feed off them. You’ll learn all this in time though.”
“So what went wrong with me? Why did I get this disease, whatever it is, when most people don’t?” Asks Freya.
“Good question. It’s much like any other disease, it can be transmitted through blood. Most people are pretty resistant to it though. When you want to make someone a vampire, you have to make a special type of medicine, or poison rather, to lower their natural defences and make them more susceptible to the disease. You were just very unlucky.”
“So... Do I have to drink blood and stuff?” Freya asks. “I’m not sure I can do that.”
“You’ll get used to it. I’ll show you what to do.”
“Is there a cure? What if I don’t want to be a vampire?”
“Not that I know of. Someone was working on a cure. It got rid of the disease, but it also killed them. This disease alters a lot of your biology, so you can’t just pop a pill and expect everything to go back to normal.” Kira explains.
“So what’s different about me now? Apart from the fangs.”
“Well, your body is adapting to take nutrients from blood instead of normal food. Your skin is more sensitive to sunlight, your scent is more enticing, and your senses are better. It’s quite easy to get someone to trust you as a vampire. Remember how you fell for me at the party?
Humans are more susceptible to pheromones than you’d think.”
“What about my family and friends, won’t they notice I’m different.” Freya asks.
“Only if you haven’t fed in a while. When you’re hungry, the signs are more obvious. Your skin is paler, your fangs will be more pronounced and you’ll have difficulty controlling your actions. Once you’ve fed, your fangs with retract and you’ll almost be back to normal. For a time as least.” Says Kira.
“What about garlic? Do I have to avoid it?”
“No, that’s just a myth. Although it does have a little truth to it. It’ll irritate your skin and you’ll get pretty ill if you eat any. But it won’t stop you from feeding though, no matter how much garlic is in the way. The same goes for wooden crosses and all that other stuff you see in books and films.”
“I’m guessing this doesn’t make me immortal either then.”
“No. Although it does slow ageing quite a bit. Especially if you feed off younger people. I know a vampire that’s 200 years old. It’s pretty rare to get to that age, mind. You are immune to almost every other disease though, and you heal faster, especially after feeding. So there are some benefits.”
“I’m hungry. I don’t want to drink anyone’s blood though, what am I going to do? Can’t I eat normal food?”
“You won’t be able to eat normal food for long, you’ll get ill if you try. It’s possible to survive off animal blood for a time, but I don’t recommend it. It’s okay if you’re desperate, but don’t make it a regular thing. There is a third option. You could always volunteer at one of those blood donation places...
I’ll let you feed on me tonight. Tomorrow I’ll show you how it’s done for real.” Says Kira.
“But I don’t want too.” Freya complains.
“Once you get the taste for it, you’ll crave it. Come on, bite me, have a taste. I’m immune to the sedative, so you don’t have to worry.”
“Won’t I hurt you?”
“No. Your fangs excrete a local anaesthetic. It didn’t hurt when I bit you the other night, did it?”
”No, I suppose not. I don’t know what to do though.” Freya isn’t sure she could do this.
“It’s easy. Just bite, then drink the blood when it flows. It’ll soon heal, so don’t worry about taking too much. Trust me, when the warm blood hits your tongue, instinct will kick in. I must say, I envy you. You don’t forget your first taste.”
Freya places her hands on Kira’s shoulders and leans closer. She smells her warm scent. It awakens something inside her. Freya lunges forward and bites Kira’s neck. She feels warm blood fill her mouth. To her surprise, she finds she can drink it without feeling sick. It feels completely natural.
After she’s had her fill, Freya starts to feel herself growing a little stronger.
“How was that?” Kira asks.
“It was... It felt so natural. Like I’ve done it a hundred times before.”
“Amazing how the disease alters your brain chemistry. You’ll find yourself craving for your next meal before long. You should find you feel much more like your usual self tomorrow. Meet me here tomorrow evening at 11. I suggest you get some rest. It’ll take some time to adjust your sleeping pattern. I’m off to find my next meal.” Kira turns around and disappears into the shadows.
Freya wipes the blood off her lips and heads home. She feels more whole than when she left, but her senses weren’t quite as sharp as they were.
The next day, Freya goes to see Yasmin. She’s a little nervous, who knows how she would react to seeing her again after what happened last time.
Yasmin opens the door and stares wearily at her. Freya looks up sheepishly.
“I’m so sorry about the other day. I haven’t been myself lately. Can I come in and talk about it?” She asks.
“As long as you’re not going to bite me again.” Yasmin replies, taking a step back.
“It won’t happen again, I promise. I’ll explain everything, but you’re not going to believe it.”
“I can’t wait for you to explain this. Are you going to tell me you’ve caught rabies or something?”
“Not rabies...” How was she going to get Yasmin to believe her? It was hard enough getting to grips with it herself.
“What then? I know something’s wrong. You would never have done that before. It’s got something to do with that night at the party, I just know it.” Says Yasmin.
“You’re right. Let’s sit down and I’ll tell you what happened.”
Freya knew she couldn’t tell her everything. Yasmin would never believe it, and probably think she had gone mad. Her fangs had retracted now, so she had no way of proving it. Instead she decides to fabricate a story that had enough truth that Yasmin should believe it.
“It started with that girl I met. Something about her had made me interested. She got me outside, and lead me to an ally. Then she attacked me.” Freya explains.
“Oh my god, are you okay?” Yasmin exclaims. “You should’ve told me. I’m always here for you, you know that.”
“There’s more. She bit me, then I think she knocked me out. I woke in a gutter.”
“What? That makes no sense. Did she steal anything from you? How’d she knock you out?” Yasmin questions.
“Nothing was stolen. I don’t know how she knocked me out. Maybe she used chloroform or something, I don’t remember.”
“Perhaps she spiked your drink or something. What did she get out of it? You don’t think she... surely not, she could’ve of brought you back to her house willingly.”
“I don’t think she did anything to me. I think I would’ve known after I woke.”
“But, none of this explains why you bit me. Or why that girl bit you.”
“I’m coming to that.” Says Freya. ”When she bit me, I contracted some sort of disease. It makes me crave the taste of blood.”
“Is it rabies? I heard there’s no cure for that. Oh my god, Freya, are you going to be okay?” Yasmin looks concerned, and a little fearful.
“No, it’s... I think it’s quite rare. I happens in stages I think. Once I... feed... I seem to go back to normal. For a while at least. I don’t really know. Kira explained it all but I don’t really know what’s going on.”
“Who’s Kira? And what do you mean by feed?”
I’ve said too much. Freya thinks. “Kira’s the one who bit me. I met her the other night.”
“You met her after what she did?”
“I didn’t mean to. I just bumped into her and wanted answers. She’s... not a bad person, she couldn’t help it.”
“Freya... I think you need to see someone. None of this makes sense. I know there’s something you’re not telling me. If you can’t talk to me, I know a good therapist.”
“But...” Freya hesitates. Maybe she should just go with it. It would be easier than trying to explain everything. “Maybe you’re right. I’m probably just being paranoid. I shouldn’t of believed everything that girl said.”
“No, you shouldn’t of talked to her at all. Stay away from her in the future. She obviously isn’t right in the head. Go get some rest. I’m here if you need me.”
Freya waits by the woods. Last night’s feed obviously wasn’t enough. She’s already craving her next meal. Her fangs were back and her senses heightened.
Kira seems to appear from nowhere, making Freya jump.
“Tonight you’re going to learn how to find a meal.” Says Kira. “It’s very important that you do it right. Don’t do what I did with you.”
“I’m ready.” Freya replies. She was eager to taste fresh blood again.
“I hope you are. Do whatever I tell you and you’ll be okay. Follow me.”
Kira leads her through the town. They approach a small house on its own.
“The girl who lives here is home alone. We’ll enter though the front door. We’ll make it look casual in case anyone is watching.” Kira explains.
“How do you know she’s alone?” Freya asks.
“Because the girl said so on social media. She shares everything on there.”
“How are we getting in?”
“That’s the clever part. She was at that party. The one where I bit you. I was initially going to feed on her. Then she went to the bathroom and left her keys on the table. All I needed was a photo. I then 3d printed a new key using the reference photo I took.”
“How did you know where she lived?”
“I’ve seen her around. I know where most the people live in this town. It’s useful to know in case you desperately need to feed.” Kira approaches the door and takes out a plastic key.
“What if she’s awake?” Freya asks.
“Do you see any lights on? She could be on her phone, I suppose. If she is, we’ll have to act fast. I’ll take care of it, don’t worry.” Kira inserts the key into the lock and turns it. It’s not a perfect fit, but the lock eventually opens.
“I can pick locks too, but this is quicker. I’ll have to teach you some day. Be quiet now and follow me.”
Kira enters the living room and quietly goes up the stairs, wincing when a stair creaks. The house was dark, but Freya could just about see enough to navigate without bumping into anything.
Kira leads her into the bedroom. Freya sees a sleeping body. There’s enough light from the street to make out their features. Freya realises she knows this girl.
They were once friends at school.
“You know what to do.” Kira whispers.
“Aren’t you going to show me?” Freya asks.
“No, she’s all yours. Go on, have a taste.”
“Won’t she wake up?”
“She might briefly, but she’ll fall back asleep and forget about it in the morning.”
Freya creeps closer and leans in. She could smell the girl’s scent now. Suddenly she’s overcome with lust. Freya grabs the girl and bites her neck. She wakes with a start, but soon goes limp.
Freya continues to feed, the taste of blood driving her wild. She bites again.
“Okay, that’ll do.” Says Kira. Freya ignores her.
“I said that’s enough.” Kira places a hand on Freya’s shoulder.
Freya wants more. She bites a third time, the spray of warm blood filling her mouth.
“Stop it, you’ll kill her.” Kira pulls Freya off.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it. Will she be okay?” Freya looks at the girl, now face down on her bed.
“She’ll live. You’ve made a mess though. You’ve got blood all over her sheets.”
“What’re we going to do?” Freya asks.
“Nothing. She’ll wake up and think she had a nosebleed in the night.” Kira tucks her back in, and leaves the bedroom. Freya follows.
When they get downstairs, Kira turns around. “You lost control. It was your first time, so it was expected, but you need to learn some discipline.”
“I know, I’m sorry.”
“You’ve got blood on your lips.” Kira leans in and licks it off.
Freya realises how horny she is. “Umm, is it normal to get turned on when feeding?”
“It’s not uncommon. Watching you feed actually made me a little horny myself.” Kira steps closer.
“What’re you going to do now?” Freya asks.
“I was going to give you a few tips on how to blend in, but now I’m thinking about doing you on the sofa.”
Freya steps back. She wasn’t sure if this is a good idea. “I don’t think...”
“It’s a terrible idea, I know. That girl shouldn’t wake up for a while though, and no one else is home.” Kira grabs Freya and pulls her closer. “You smell of blood. May I... No, I shouldn’t.”
“Do it.” Says Freya, thinking Kira wanted to kiss her.
“I can have a taste?” Kira looks excited.
“Of course.” Freya leans forward to kiss her.” Kira suddenly bites her throat.
Freya gasps, she didn’t think Kira was going to do that. It doesn’t hurt, but Freya panics and tries to push her off.
Kira lets go. “You said I could taste you.”
“I thought you meant you wanted a kiss.”
“You’re so innocent. Fine, you can have your kiss. I’ll feed on someone else later.” Kira presses her lips against Freya’s mouth.
Freya can taste her own blood. It excites her. Kira picks her up and throws her on the sofa. She kisses her roughly. Freya digs her nails into Kira’s back. It’s been too long since she’s done this.
Kira suddenly starts biting Freya’s lip. Freya gasps and tries to pull away. Kira’s too strong though. She tastes blood again.
The blood seems to drive Kira wild. She bites harder. Freya tries to push her off. Kira suddenly bites Freya’s neck again. Freya goes limp. She can’t fight her. Kira’s far too strong.
Kira breaks off to kiss Freya again. Freya is completely turned on, but is worried this is going too far.
“Bite me! It’s your turn.” Says Kira.
“No, this is getting out of hand.”
“Do it. I’ve bit you twice already.”
Freya hesitates a moment, then can’t resist any longer. She throws herself at Kira, biting her neck hard. It’s messy and she gets blood everywhere.
After she’s had her fill, she lets Kira get a taste of her own blood by kissing her. Kira returns the kiss passionately, then goes to bite again. Freya holds her off.
“Stop! Kira, no.”
“One more!” Kira tries to get to Freya’s neck.
“You’ve had enough.”
Kira seems to realise she’s going too far. “I’m sorry. It’s just been so long since I’ve done this with someone. Me and this girl, we used to do this until one of us passed out.”
“What happened to her.” Freya asks.
“She had to move away. I almost went with her... Anyway, we should get going.”
“What about all this blood?” There’s splatterings of blood all over the sofa and floor.
“Not much we can do. You should go home.” Says Kira.
“What about you?”
“I’m going to find someone to feed on.”
“I want to come.” Says Freya.
“You’ve had enough for one night. Meet me at the same place in three days time. We need to get you a thrall.”
“Why?” Freya asks.
“You need someone to play with and feed on that isn’t me. I’ll talk you through it when the time comes. Go home and get yourself off. You’ll calm down a bit then. I’d do it for you, but something tells me that’s not a good idea.”
When Freya gets home, she looks in the mirror. Her face is covered in blood where Kira bit her lip. Her shirt is stained from where she’d been fed on. Freya takes her clothes off and jumps on her bed. She closes her eyes and imagines herself biting Kira again. She begins touching herself, and soon climaxes.
A few days later Freya meets Kira again. This time, Kira takes her to her house. The inside is furnished with all sorts of odd trinkets. Freya inspects a shelf full of old books and alchemy equipment.
“Interesting place you’ve got here.” She says.
“Those books are about three hundred years old. They contain technical information on the vampiric disease, instructions on how to brew all sorts of potions and the history of vampires.” Kira explains.
“Where’d you get them?”
“From the citadel. I’ll take you there some day. It’s an old castle that was repurposed for our needs.”
“Where is it?” Freya asks.
“Now’s not the time. You’ll learn everything eventually, but I’ve got to trust you more first. We’re very secretive. I need to find a way to introduce you without letting it be known that I messed up. Don’t tell anyone what happened that night.” Says Kira.
“But it could happen to anybody, right? You said there’s always a chance the disease could spread.”
“Yeah... about that... I haven’t been completely honest with you. I think I mentioned to turn someone into a vampire, you need to create a potion to lower their natural defences. Transmitting the disease accidentally is pretty much impossible these days. We’ve engineered it that way. It’s been well over a century since the last accidental vampire.”
“So, what happened with me? Did you do it intentionally?” Asks Freya, a little shocked.
“No. I did however, try to do it with someone else. That vampire I mentioned the other day, we had a thrall together. We all played together. I had the idea of turning her into a vampire too. The other Vampire, Maya’s her name, didn’t agree. We had a bit of an argument. I thought I’d convinced her, and brewed the potion. Then she decided she didn’t want to see me again and moved away. When I met you, the potion must’ve still been in my system. I’m sorry, this could’ve been preventable. It’s all my fault.” Kira turns away, looking sad.
“It’s okay, you didn’t know. Anyway... It’s not all bad, right? I’ve got special powers now.” Says Freya, trying to cheer Kira up.
“It’s a curse as well as a blessing. You’ll learn that in time. I’m so sorry I brought you into all this. Now you see why no one can find out. There are rules. You can’t just make anyone a vampire, it’s too risky. Especially in this day and age. Back before the Internet, if a rumour got out, it didn’t spread too far and there was little proof. Now, we’ve got to be so careful not to be discovered. It’s much easier now the disease is harder to spread by accident.”
“I won’t tell anyone, I promise.”
“Good girl. We’ll come up with something, don’t worry about it for now. Tonight you’re going to learn how to make a thrall.” Says Kira.
“Is that a good idea? What if someone finds out? More people means we’re more likely to be discovered.”
“Your thrall will be under your control. They’re not a vampire, so they won’t seem any different. They’ll carry on with their daily life until you need them. At least they will if you go down the potion route. There’s two ways to make a thrall.” Kira walks closer to Freya and pulls her close.
“There’s the old way...” She continues, brushing Freya’s neck with her lips. “You simply continue to feed on someone until they build a resistance to the sedative. They’ll no longer fall unconscious, and will start to become addicted to your sweet poison. They’ll do anything to please you and will crave their next bite. This method is slower and it effects them the most. They’ll get withdrawal if you stop feeding on them, and they’ll be more lethargic.” Kira gently presses her teeth against Freya’s neck, before stepping back.
“The second way is much preferred these days. You get your thrall to drink a potion once a month. It stops them becoming completely addicted and dependant on you. They won’t be effected by the sedative either. They will still feel an attachment to you and want to please you though. It works best with people who you’re already friendly with. They’re not completely under your control, but they’re highly unlikely to betray you. Treat them well, and they’ll be your companion for life.”
“What if they don’t take the potion?” Freya asks.
“If they’re already your thrall, your bite will sedate them until they grow resistant. Then it’s much like the first method. They’ll become addicted and completely dependent on you.”
“What if I don’t feed on them?”
“Eventually the effects will wear off, and they’ll go back to normal. It’s not advised. They could tell anyone or hate you for it. It depends on the person. Best to keep them close and under your control.” Says Kira.
“How often do I have to bite them?” Freya asks.
“Once a week is good. You can go a couple of weeks before the effects start to wane. Don’t over feed though. It’s tempting to feed every day or keep biting them. Especially when it’s all new. Don’t forget they only have a limited supply of blood. You can kill them, never forget that.”
“How do I make them drink the potion every month?”
“Once they’re your thrall, they’ll do it if you ask. Just supply them with it and insist they drink it once a month. You’ll know if they don’t because they’ll fall unconscious when you go to feed. The first time, you either force them, or spike their drink.” Kira explains.
“Can we still be friends when they’re my thrall? Like do they still act the same?”
“Certainly. Best friends are the perfect choice. They’ll just be a little more eager to please. Did you have someone in mind?” Kira asks.
“Maybe... I’m not sure if I want to put them though this though.”
“It’s not too bad for them. It’ll feel good every time you feed. You’ll both enjoy it. They’ll feel like they’ve got a purpose too. With the potion method, they aren’t a slave either. They don’t strictly have to do whatever you say. If it goes against what they believe in, they can say no. You can persuade them easier though.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“Do it sooner rather than later. If you remain friends, it’s only a matter of time before they notice something is up. A life of being a vampire can be a solitary one.”
“I guess I’ve got no choice then. She suspects something is wrong already. I can’t keep lying to her.”
“What’s her name?”
“Yasmin.” Freya replies.
“We’ll do it tomorrow. Tonight we prepare the potion. That’s if you wanted to do it that way...”
“Yes. That sounds best.”
“I did it the old fashioned way with my first thrall... It didn’t end well.”
“What happened?” Asks Freya.
“One day I fed on them while we were getting each other off... they kept begging for more. I kept biting and biting, there was blood everywhere. They passed out eventually. When they woke, they were desperate for more. They were completely addicted to me. I tried to convince them it was a bad idea, but they got the better of me... I bit again. Hard.”
“You didn’t kill them, did you?” Says Freya, looking horrified.
“Almost. I got them to a hospital and said it was an attempted suicide. They recovered eventually. I met with them again and we decided we shouldn’t see each other again. The effects had worn off, but they weren’t too angry with me. They promised not to tell anyone. I don’t think they really knew what had happened.”
“At least they’re okay now. I definitely won’t do it that way.”
“Come on, we’ll prepare the potion.” Kira grabs some glassware and a book from the shelf. Freya follows her into a back room. There’s a table with old fashioned lab equipment. Kira sets down the book.
“You can give me a hand.” She takes a handful of seeds from a jar and places them in a mortar and pestle. “Make sure you grind them really fine.” Kira takes some dried flowers and weighs them with an antique set of scales.
Freya begins grinding up the seeds. “How often do we have to do this?”
“We’ll make enough to last you a while. I reckon this batch will last six months or so. Your friend only needs a small bottle once a month.” Kira cuts the flowers and puts them in a flask. She opens the book and flicks through the pages.
“It’s been awhile since I’ve done this. Don’t want to get it wrong.” She then takes a few mushrooms and adds them to the flask, filling it with water. She attaches a distillation apparatus and begins boiling the water.
“I think this is done.” Says Freya.
“Good, stick that in this bowl.” Kira adds a few more ingredients and pours the distilled liquid into the bowl.
“One last step.” Says Kira. “I’m not sure if this is strictly necessary, but it’s tradition. We need to add a little of your blood. Your hand please.”
Freya hesitantly gives Kira her hand. Kira grabs it, places it over the bowl, and bites it hard. Freya winces. A few drops of blood fall into the bowl. Kira sucks the rest off.
“We’ll just add some alcohol and it’s done.” Kira pours in some spirits and mixes everything together. She then empties the contents into a glass vial.
“I’ll measure the correct amount and bring it when we do this. Should we say this weekend? You can feed on her then. You’ll be starting to get hungry.”
“Okay. I’ll tell Yasmin I want to see her this Saturday.” Says Freya.
“Let’s do it at nine in the evening. I suggest you go home now. Otherwise I might bite you again.” Kira licks her lips.
“See you Saturday then.” Freya leaves quick, before Kira tries to feed. She’s got a hungry look in her eyes.
Freya arrives at Yasmin’s house. She told Kira to come ten minutes later. She wants to explain things first.
Yasmin opens the door. “Good to see you again. I was starting to get worried. How are you feeling now?”
“Much better. I’ve got some important stuff to tell you, are you alone?” Freya asks.
“Yes, come in, tell me what’s on your mind.” Yasmin leads Freya in. “Want a drink?” She asks.
Only if it’s your warm blood. Freya thinks. “No thanks.” She says.
“You’ve been keeping something secret, haven’t you?” Yasmin asks. “I can tell. Usually you’re so open with me.”
“Yes. Do you trust me?” Freya asks.
“Of course! I hope you trust me too. What’s been bothering you?”
Freya sits down next to Yasmin. “If you want to remain friends with me, I need you to do something. You’re going to have to trust me on this.”
“What is it Freya? You know I’d do anything for you. Please tell me what’s been going on so I can help.”
“I’m a vampire. Not the kind you see in movies, but the real thing. Turns out they exist. Where do you think the myths came from? It sounds crazy, I know, but I can prove it.”
“Freya, what on Earth are you talking about?” Asks Yasmin, clearly concerned about Freya’s mental health.
Freya bares her teeth, showing her fangs. Yasmin’s eyes widen.
“I need to drink blood to live, I age a lot slower, I can see in the dark and I can smell what you had for dinner.” Says Freya.
“Are those real?” Yasmin parts Freya’s lips and inspects her fangs.”
“Careful, I bite.” It takes all Freya’s self control to not bite her.
“I know, you did it before. Where’d you get these from? They look so realistic. You always were a little eccentric, but this is crazy. What’s made you like this? Have you been with that girl again?”
Freya suddenly pins Yasmin down. “I’m serious, Yasmin! I don’t want to hurt you, but I can’t help it. I need to feed. Kira will be here soon, it’ll all be okay then.”
“Stop it, you’re scaring me.”
Freya stares into her eyes. “I want to bite you.” She tightens her grip. “You don’t know how this feels. I can’t help it.”
“Please, Freya, you’re not well. I know someone that can help.” Yasmin struggles to push her off.
Suddenly the door knocks. “Stay there.” Says Freya. She runs over to open it. Kira steps in.
“You ready?” She asks.
“Hurry up, I almost bit her already.” Freya runs back over to Yasmin. “Don’t be scared. I’ll tell you everything after.”
“After what? Who’s this?” Yasmin looks fearful.
Kira steps forward. “I’m Kira. Has Freya explained what we are?” She places a hand on Yasmin’s arm.
“She said some nonsense about being a vampire. Did you set her up for this?” Asks Yasmin.
“I’ve been teaching her. Do as Freya tells you and everything will be fine.” Yasmin seems to calm down at Kira’s touch.
“Give her this and make her drink.” Says Kira, handing Freya a small bottle.
Freya takes it and sits next to Yasmin. “Drink this for me.”
“What is it?” Asks Yasmin warily.
“Medicine. It’ll stop my bite from harming you. You have to trust me, Yasmin.”
“Freya... This girl isn’t good for you, open your eyes, look what she’s making you do.”
“She isn’t making me do anything. This is the only way we can be friends. Drink, otherwise I can’t see you again.” Freya places the bottle in Yasmin’s hand.
“You don’t have to do this...”
“You’ll understand soon. Please trust me. I’m still the same person. After we’ve done this, I’ll be back to normal. I just need to feed. It won’t hurt, I promise.”
“I can’t, Freya. I don’t know what’s in this. She could be drugging me.”
Kira steps closer. She gently pushes Freya out the way, then climbs into Yasmin’s lap. “Trust us.” She kisses her softly.
To Freya’s amazement, Yasmin returns the kiss. Kira pulls away.
“One of the perks of being a vampire. I’ll have to teach you.” Kira takes the bottle and presses it against Yasmin’s lips. Yasmin drinks it.
“She’s all yours.” Says Kira, stepping away.
Freya jumps on Yasmin. She feels a powerful lust for blood.
“What did she do to me? I kissed her...” Says Yasmin in confusion.
“Stay still. This won’t hurt.” Freya sinks her fangs into Yasmin’s neck.
Yasmin tenses up, but quickly relaxes. Freya drinks quickly, the hot blood driving her crazy. Suddenly Kira pulls her off.
“No, I need more!” Freya begs.
“You need to wait five minutes, then do it again.” Kira tells her.
“Five minutes? Okay, I think I can wait that long.” Freya licks the blood off her lips.
Yasmin sits up, looking groggy. “You bit me!” She gingerly touches the bite mark on her neck. It’s stopped bleeding already.
“I’m sorry but I needed to. You’ll be okay.” Says Freya.
“You’re really a vampire?”
“Yes.”
“Are you making me into a vampire?” Yasmin asks. “I’d like that...” She stares at Freya with a dreamy look in her eye.
“Are you okay?” Freya asks.
“Yes, I feel good actually. Whatever was in that potion was good stuff.”
Kira interjects. “Actually that was Freya’s bite. The potion just stopped you from falling asleep.”
“Really? I could do with more of that. Bite me again?” Yasmin asks.
Freya looks at Kira.
“Go on. Have another bite.” She says.
Freya pounces on Yasmin and bites again. Yasmin gives a little moan of pleasure. Freya laps up her sweet blood.
“That’s enough, Freya.” Says Kira.
“One more.” Freya can’t stop.
“You’ve got to wait an hour now.”
“That’s too long!” Freya goes to bite again.
Kira drags her off. “No, you’ll mess it up.”
Freya pushes her off. “I don’t care!” She jumps onto Yasmin again.
“Bite me!” Says Kira quickly.
Freya turns around.
“Come on, feed on me. Leave her alone, I can’t let you do what I did.” Says Kira.
Freya runs at Kira and pushes her onto the floor. She bites hard, drinking the blood as it rushes into her mouth. Then she does it again. Kira begins to struggle but Freya doesn’t care. She keeps biting, almost choking on the blood.
“I think you’re killing her, Freya.” Says Yasmin from behind her.
Freya pulls away. “Kira?”
She doesn’t move. Freya starts to panic. What is she going to do? Then Kira gasps. She doesn’t have the energy to get up.
Freya has an idea. She lays down and presses her neck against Kira’s mouth. Kira bites and starts drinking. Soon she’s back on her feet.
“You need to learn some control, Freya. You’re worse than I was.” Says Kira.
“I’m so sorry. It won’t happen again.” Freya feels embarrassed. She could’ve killed her.
“Go spend some time with your friend. I’ll be back in a bit. Don’t bite again until I get back.” Says Kira.
“I won’t. I’m full now.” Freya sits on the sofa next to Yasmin. Kira leaves them to it.
Yasmin cuddles up to Freya.
“How are you feeling?” Freya asks.
“I’m okay. I’m just a bit sleepy.” Yasmin replies.
“Good to hear. Sorry about all this. Kira said it was the only way we could still be friends.”
“So you’re really a vampire then? I’m sorry I didn’t believe you, it just seemed so silly. I won’t tell anyone. It can be our secret.”
“Thank you. I’m still learning everything, but we’ll get through it together.”
“Of course we will. Can I have a quick nap? I feel so tired.” Yasmin asks.
“Yes, I’ll wake you when Kira gets back.”
Yasmin soon falls asleep in Freya’s lap. After a few minutes, Freya starts to doze off herself.
She’s suddenly awakened by a banging at the door. Freya gently pushes Yasmin off her lap and answers the door.
